Technical Capabilities

We pride ourselves on our ability to create exceptional designs that provide innovative, energy-efficient spaces for our customers and future generations.

Efficient and affordable modern design methods coupled with the use of technology have long been the key to help enable NG Bailey to deliver some of the most complex engineering projects ever to be undertaken.

From conception to completion to commissioning, passion, integrity and excellence demonstrated by members of the technical function ensures that NG Bailey remains an industry leader in design and digital engineering.

Over the past 10 years, our technical processes have evolved significantly. We are now at a tipping point where further value-added outside of technical activities can only be realised if we adopt a one NG Bailey approach.

We have the capability to deliver projects from any stage

We understand the importance of optimising the 'built form' in ensuring the building and it's engineering services are as energy efficient as possible.

Working collaboratively with other design/professional team members, our work in this field includes orientation, form and fabric analysis, passive ventilation strategies, daylighting studies and overheating analysis.

Modern, well insulated buildings are more susceptible to overheating. Engineering solutions require an integrated approach to design with consideration given to factors such as internal gains, thermal mass, climate, indoor air quality and thermal comfort.

Technical Management

Technical managers work closely with our engineering construction teams

Having overall responsibility for the technical delivery of our projects including:

  • Reviewing performance specifications
  • Identifying and reducing technical risk
  • Client liaison
  • Regulatory compliance
  • Our technical managers are from a variety of backgrounds, including consultancy, contracting and facilities management. That, coupled with our expertise in project management, and engineering excellence ensures coordination and buildability considerations are fully addressed.

We implement a rigorous technical review process at key stages throughout the project design stage, in addition to reviewing the predicted EPC and CO2 emissions – this informs the specification and performance of plant items and systems selection. We also recognise the importance of designing with commissioning in mind, hence reviews are carried out as part of our technical review process by our in-house commissioning managers.

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is a collaborative way of working

This is underpinned by the digital technologies which unlock more efficient methods of designing, creating and maintaining our assets. BIM embeds key product and asset data and a three-dimensional computer model that can be used for effective management of information throughout a project lifecycle – from earliest concept through to operation.

Our BIM strategy is simple, to continuously enhance and develop our offering to meet the demands of customers, industry requirements and standards, and to achieve our own internal aspirations.
