Project Overview

The project involved transforming a traditional petrol station into a cutting-edge electric vehicle charging hub, designed to meet the growing demand for fast and accessible EV charging. The charging station is equipped with high-powered ultra rapid chargers, capable of providing a 100-mile charge in just 15 minutes. The installation includes ten 300kW Alpitronic charge points, offering flexibility to cater to a broad range of EV models.

Additionally, the site hosts a new Marks & Spencer retail store, which required an extension and fit-out as part of the project. As principal contractor, we oversaw the installation of a new concept design canopy, creating a modern, user-friendly environment for customers.

NG Bailey’s Role

As we have been helping our customers install electrical infrastructure for over 100 years, we are continuing to contribute to the UK’s efforts to create a more sustainable future for transportation. Our role in delivering this project includes:

  • Removal of traditional petrol pumps and installation of high-power EV ultra rapid chargers
  • Installation of ten 300kW Alpitronic charge points to support a wide range of EVs
  • Extension and fit-out of the Marks & Spencer retail unit
  • Construction of a new concept design canopy and charging station, in collaboration with bp pulse and Marks & Spencer
  • Oversight of health and safety protocols throughout the project, ensuring the highest quality output.

Challenges and Solutions

One of the main challenges was the removal of traditional petrol infrastructure and replacing it with advanced EV charging technology. This required precise planning and execution to ensure minimal disruption while ensuring that all technical requirements for the charging infrastructure were met. Our expertise in electrical infrastructure and experience working on civil and electrical projects allowed the team to manage the complexity of the site while maintaining the highest standards of safety.

The collaboration with bp pulse and Marks & Spencer was also integral to the project’s success, particularly in aligning the construction and design elements with the overall sustainability goals of all parties involved.

This project is a significant contribution to the UK’s efforts to create a more sustainable future for transportation. As the UK transitions towards net-zero emissions by 2050, the development of more high-powered EV charging hubs will play a crucial role in meeting the country’s sustainability goals.
