Chesterfield Urgent & Emergency Care Department

This is the eighth project that NG Bailey has delivered for the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust in partnership with main contractor Integrated Health Projects (IHP, a joint venture of Vinci Construction and Sir Robert McAlpine) on the Procure 21+ healthcare framework.

This partnership started in 2013 with an operating theatre refurbishment programme and other schemes delivered including a new endoscopy and medical records departments, an extension to the existing emergency department and a new MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) suite.

Our team was engaged from concept stage to support IHP during preconstruction to develop an affordable design and GMP.

Early enabling works included the diversion of primary infrastructure such as water, gas and high voltage cables and bringing in new supplies. The high-voltage work was undertaken by Freedom, NG Bailey’s power engineering division.

The scheme also involved upgrades to existing infrastructure such as medical gases, heating systems and electrical distribution.

Modern Methods of Construction were widely used with many of the service installations – including heavy-duty service modules, plant room skids, and plant room frames - being manufactured at our specialist offsite manufacturing facility. By using offsite construction techniques, we were able to speed up the manufacture and installation of equipment and reduce the impact of the works on the wider hospital estate.
