NG Bailey Net Zero target approved by the Science Based Targets Initiative
We are delighted to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative has approved our long-term science-based emissions reduction target to achieve net zero emissions.
We are delighted to announce that the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has approved our long-term science-based emissions reduction target to achieve net zero emissions.
NG Bailey’s vision to create exceptional environments for present and future generations is reflected in our commitments to cut greenhouse gas emissions and take significant and credible action on climate change.
What does this mean for NG Bailey?
- We have had our target to achieve net zero by 2045 for our scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions validated by the SBTi
- This new target is in addition to our existing science-based near-term targets and Race to Zero commitment
This means we will reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2045 from a 2018/19 base year. Plus, we commit to reducing absolute scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions by 90% also by 2045.
Currently, 83% of our total emissions are from the products and services we purchase. We are working with our supply chain partners to identify and deliver the necessary carbon reductions. Our long-term strategic ambitions are set out in our Net Positive strategy.
Work towards our Net Zero targets is supported by our existing near-term targets:
- We commit to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% by 2031
- And that 75% of our suppliers, by spend, covering purchased goods and services and capital goods, will have science-based targets by FY2027.
Receiving validation from the Science Based Targets initiative demonstrates the credibility of our commitments and supports our ambitions to limit our climate change impact.

What is the Science Based Targets initiative?
The initiative is a collaboration between Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) and one of the We Mean Business Coalition commitments.
The Science Based Targets initiative defines and promotes best practice in science-based target setting, offers resources and guidance to reduce barriers to adoption, and independently assesses and approves companies’ targets.
