Hinkley Point C – getting ready to install the heart of the power station
Earlier this year, we shared that there are some exciting developments taking place on the Hinkley Point C (HPC) project, with 16 project milestones planned for 2024. In May, the first 520-tonne steam generator for the power station arrived on site, the first of eight required.
In the video below, hosted by Simon Parsons, Nuclear Island Area Director, he talks about progress on the site since the first nuclear reactor dome was lifted into place at the end of 2023. He also shares a site tour and talks about how they are getting ready to install the beating heart of the power station, the reactor, later this year.

As a Group, we form part of the MEH Alliance and are responsible for the installation of the mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems on the project. The team at HPC continues to grow, and we now have over 200 colleagues working as part of the MEH Alliance.
As well as our core focus on the delivery of the electrical scope, we also now have several colleagues working in the MEHJV topographical surveying team who are key to ensuring the precise setting out of the MEH services installations.
In support of HPC’s requirement to implement world-class health and safety across the project, we have recruited an occupational hygiene team to ensure we provide a safe working environment, with a significant focus on the management of welding fumes and dust. This is a first for NG Bailey and gives us the opportunity to share best practices across the Group.
The MEH Alliance target for 2024 is to achieve 15.02% completion of the MEH scope of work for reactor Unit 1. To achieve this, the team is working closely with the nuclear new build procurement teams to ensure the required quantity of materials is available to achieve this target.
Hinkley Point C is the UK's largest and newest nuclear power station and will provide zero-carbon energy for future generations for years to come. When switched on, it will deliver clean energy to six million homes in the UK.
We are extremely proud to play our part in an iconic legacy project like Hinkley Point C and how it will become such a vital piece of British energy infrastructure for future generations to come.
