Triple shortlist success at the North West Regional Construction Awards 2024

We’re pleased to announce that our North West Engineering team has been shortlisted in three categories at this year’s North West Regional Construction Awards.

These are:

Project of the Year - Building, Infrastructure and Residential for the Booth Street East project on behalf of client, The University of Manchester

Integration and Collaborative Working for the Our Town Hall project on behalf of management contractor, Lendlease, and client, Manchester City Council

Client of the Year with our nomination for the University of Manchester on the Booth Street East project.

Booth Street East project

This project saw our Engineering division undertake a five-month refurbishment programme of the university's Booth Street East Building, bringing it back to life after being unoccupied since 2018.

The key project goals were to address the long-term maintenance issues in the building and deliver technologies aligned with the university's zero-carbon masterplan. As part of the contract, we provided a range of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations, including new air source heat pumps and CO2-efficient lighting, as well as a wider decorative refurbishment of the building.

Our Town Hall project

The UK’s largest heritage project sees us supporting the refurbishment and partial restoration of Manchester’s prestigious Grade One listed town hall, which dates back to 1877.

Our Engineering team has been responsible for the removal and replacement of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services on the site, working collaboratively with other NG Bailey business units that have provided other key services, offering a true end-to-end solution for the client.

The refurbishment project will not only transform users’ experiences of the building by putting more of its civic treasures on display and making it easier to get around, but it will also reduce the building’s carbon footprint and energy costs once complete.

The prestigious awards celebrate excellence within the construction industry in the North West region. This news follows on from our success last year, which saw us win two regional and one national award.

The ceremony will take place on 5 July, in partnership with Constructing Excellence in the North West, and will be hosted by the School of Science, Engineering, and Environment at the University of Salford and the Centre for Construction Innovation. We wish the North West Engineering team the very best of luck.
