Booth Street East project scoops university accolade
Our Booth Street East project recently picked up the Large Project of the Year Award at the Estates and Facilities Outstanding Contribution Awards hosted by client, the University of Manchester.
The accolade was awarded to the project team responsible for the refurbishment of the university’s Booth Street East Building, which enabled it to be brought back into use after being unoccupied since 2018. In addition to NG Bailey being the principal contractor and mechanical, electrical and plumbing designer, were Arcadis (project manager), and Halliday Meecham (architect).
The key aims of the project were to address the long-term maintenance issues in the building and deliver technologies aligned with the university’s zero-carbon masterplan. The renovation was the first major refurbishment to take place on the campus as part of the masterplan, which aims to reduce the university's carbon emissions by an average of 13% each year.
As part of the contract, NG Bailey provided a range of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing installations, including new air source heat pumps and CO2-efficient lighting, as well as a wider decorative refurbishment of the building. The building is now home to their flexible learning project team and creates the specialist areas required to enable and develop the provision of hyflex teaching spaces, podcasting studios, and VR experience pods within the university.
